Airalo is looking for a dynamic and motivated Data Engineering Manager to join our expanding team and support our rapid growth as we venture into multiple additional global markets while building our B2B & B2B2C offerings. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to be one of the pioneering members of Data Department at Airalo, helping shape our data infrastructure and data strategy. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in setting up and scaling data engineering frameworks from scratch and possess a strong passion for technology, travel, or telecommunications.
As a Data Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our data systems are robust, scalable, and efficient. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, as well as implementing the data engineering strategy, vision, and roadmap initiatives. You will lead a team of data engineers and work closely with the data analysts and data scientists. Collaboration will be key, as you will work with various stakeholders and business functions such as Growth, Product, Engineering, finance, and Networks.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Lead a team of data engineers and guide them through project planning, design, development, quality control, and deployment
  • Act as a project manager for data projects and own the majority of deliverables for the data engineering team
  • Understand existing data applications and build an optimal infrastructure for extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide range of data sources using AWS and SQL technologies
  • Define the end to end data funnel mapping between media platform data and business data to understand the customer journey
  • Design and implement robust and reproducible data ingestion pipelines to collect, clean, harmonize, transform, and consolidate data from various platforms
  • Build an integrated enterprise scale data warehouse to assemble various large and complex data sets to meet non-functional and functional business requirements
  • Collaborate with other data teams, such as Data Analytics and Data Science, and business divisions, including the User experience, Partner experience and Network experience teams, to support their data needs while assisting them with data-related technical issues
  • Set high standards for the team's delivery and enforce code review procedures to ensure quality
  • Ensure data quality and security across every product vertical and related areas and oversee the data governance and security policies
  • Ensure that each standard procedure and workflows are properly documented for future reference and the benefit of the team
  • Continuously work towards achieving high performance, operational excellence, greater accuracy, and reliability of the overall system
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and best practices in data and analytics and keep your team up to date
Must-haves
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Information Systems, Informatics, Analytics, or another quantitative field
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant industry experience in data-rich organizations
  • Minimum 5+ years of data engineering experience in managing, designing, and maintaining large scale data solutions
  • Strong project management skills and team management experience (2+ years) with exceptional abilities to handle a team of 2 - 4 data engineers
  • Hands-on work with cloud-native data warehouse technologies such as Snowflake or Redshift or DOMO etc.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with a variety of relational and non-relational databases, query languages, query tuning, and related tools
  • Sound knowledge and strong hands-on experience in building data pipelines, datasets, and data architectures from raw and unstructured data
Good To Have
  • Experience working in a large-scale data warehouse environment with no-code ETL tools and processes
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and experience building secure data solutions
  • Experience working with Internet and technology companies
  • Experience working with Telcos, MNOs & MNVOs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
