About the role:

Fubo is seeking an exceptional, senior hands-on engineering manager/tech leader for our Video Engineering and Distribution team to help us expand the video backend services behind our streaming products.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone that can balance helping highly-skilled engineers grow their skills, a love of coding, and making sure new features and improvements are shipped.

You will be responsible for managing a team of software engineers ensuring that everyone is empowered to do their best work and offer a great video experience to our users. You are also responsible for the performance, maintenance, and evolution of the services.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for a senior software engineer who thrives on collaborating with both internal and external customers, designing streamlined systems to address critical business requirements. You will partner with our Streaming Media Operations (Acquisition, Encoding, Operations), Advertising Engineering, Product Management, Content Distribution and Sales teams to create cross-team solutions.

The Video Engineering and Distribution team is responsible for all linear video ingest, storage, distribution, advertising and scheduling singling, and client playback. This position reports to the Director of Video Engineering.

As an senior leader and manager on this team, you are required to have the following:

  • 6+ years of experience delivering production-quality software in a complex, high traffic environment (ideally using a strongly-typed language -- we’re using Go right now)
  • Some experience in managing backend software engineers
  • A track record of growing teams, both in terms of headcount and abilities
  • Exceptional communication skills -- you will be expected to translate complex technical problems into to-the-point statements of business impact
  • A record of delivering substantial technical projects
  • Expertise with distributed, high-performance, low-latency systems
  • Skill at crafting simple, cost-effective, debuggable systems that solve complex problems
  • Strong prioritization skills

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Have the ability to think about systems architecture in a high-level and end-to-end mindset when designing systems
  • Be comfortable thinking about performance in percentiles, gigabytes per second, and time/space complexities, while not forgetting the financial impact of design choices.
  • Have opinions on approaches to keep processes lean and code reviews effective
  • Stay calm and provide leadership under pressure
  • A bias for action and a keen sense of opportunity costs

And has experience with:

  • Streaming video in an MVPD environment (Linear and VOD)
  • Video and audio codecs (e.g. AVC, HEVC, AAC, E-AC3)
  • Streaming packaging standards (e.g. HLS, DASH, CMAF)
  • Digital Advertising (e.g. SSAI, CSAI)
  • Video Signaling standards and systems (e.g. POIS, ESNI, ESAM, SCTE-35, SCTE-224)
  • Working with large data sets and using SQL
  • XML, JSON, HTTP, cookies, REST, scripting languages, etc.
  • Modern log/metric aggregation software (e.g. Datadog, Big Query, CloudWatch)
  • Code-deployment toolchains (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • CDN vendors and their systems (e.g. Akamai, Level3, Fastly, etc.)
  • Cloud-based environments (e.g. AWS, GCP)
  • Working with 3rd party vendors and clients

Fubo’s minimum base salary for this role if hired in New York City is $200,000 per year; maximum base salary for this role is $220,000 per year. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Fubo's equity plan, annual cash bonus plans, unlimited PTO, and a full range of medical benefits. Final offer amount will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by multiple factors, including years and depth of experience and expertise, location and other business considerations.
