Position Overview:
The Engineering Technician will provide hands-on support of mechanical and electrical equipment as well as diagnostic systems currently in use or under development. The technician will be part of a team that builds and maintains an assortment of complex and unique equipment, machinery, and testing apparatuses.
Responsibilities:
- Assemble and troubleshoot mechanical, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Provide input and suggestions for design and assembly procedures.
- Maintain shop, shop tools, and materials.
- Specify and order shop tools and supplies as needed.
- Assist in design and construction of static mechanical jigs, fixtures, stands, brackets and holders using varied materials including lumber, steel, plastic, aluminum stock and extrusions. Specify, and order parts and materials for these projects.
- Maintain personal and co-worker safety as the top priority in all operations.
- Bring experience and shop know-how to the team.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years’ experience working in a shop or lab environment and / or working hands on with mechanical equipment.
- Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced research and development environment.
- Strong multi-disciplinary skillset with demonstrated experience in diagnosing, repairing and solving system/equipment challenges
- Hands on experience working with a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment in a research or product development lab environment
- Excellent Time management skills
- Ability to lift up to 20kg
- Basic Computer Literacy (Excel, Outlook)
- Forklift experience is an asset.
- Experience with hoisting and rigging using overhead cranes.
- Demonstrated skills including the following preferred:
- Steel Fabrication
- Mig Welding
- Gas brazing
- Plasma Cutting
- Lathe and Mill operation
- Experience with fiberglass layup including vacuum bagging is an asset.
This role requires self-directed work that often is driven by employee initiative. The successful candidate will have the expertise to focus their attention on tasks that add value to the project at hand. The candidate must have experience in working with and safely moving large equipment.
The typical hiring range for this position is $55,000 - $68,000. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
