Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director, Engineering, the Vendor Manager is the main liaison between General Fusion’s Engineers and Scientists and the company’s vendor base. General Fusion works on innovative projects with quick timelines; there are few repeat buys. The Vendor Manager understands the needs of the projects and uses their knowledge of the vendor base to facilitate the delivery of parts to specification and on time. The Vendor Manger recognizes challenging and critical parts and leverages their relationship with the vendor base to shepherd these through the procurement cycle. In this cross functional role, the Vendor Manager will drive strategic purchasing decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain new and existing supplier relationships.
- Function as the technical liaison between suppliers and General Fusion’s R&D, Engineering and Purchasing teams.
- Research potential supplier sources ensuring prices are globally competitive and understand market price for key components.
- Work with Finance & Purchasing to develop and implement strategies to improve supplier productivity/quality and ensure supply chain continuity.
- Facilitate communication between suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Provide constructive feedback to the organization to drive continuous improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Post Secondary Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management, Logistics, or relevant field (Engineering degree an asset)
- 8+ years’ directly relevant experience in procurement, engineering, supply chain and / or quality management, preferably within a technical / R&D environment.
- In-depth knowledge of local supply chain for custom mechanical and electronic components.
- Proven ability to resolve challenging procurement and vendor issues.
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain engineering operations and best practices.
- Aptitude to find and assess unique suppliers.
- Negotiation skills and proven ability to use product design knowledge to assist reduction in unit cost and optimization of supplier capacity allocation and to manage partner accountability.
- Experience with IP management and Purchase agreements for technical goods and services.
- Quality assurance and associated best practices in supplier relations.
- Ability to perform in a dynamic and collaborative environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience as a technology development engineer, supply chain engineer, or procurement engineer an asset.
- Certification in Quality Assurance an asset.
The successful applicant to this position brings a passion for helping engineers realize their design vision, along with the ability to understand engineering specifications and convey key messages important to suppliers.
The typical hiring range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 / year. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation including job specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
