Position Overview:

The electrical engineer will design, build and test electrical hardware for diagnostic systems in support of General Fusion’s LM26 project within a cross-functional team. The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be to take ownership of hardware development and quality control for electromagnetic sensors and other instrumentation/diagnostics. This includes devices such as Rogowski coils, flux loops, and Mirnov probes. The position is primarily on-site at General Fusion’s facilities in Richmond, BC.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management of electromagnetic sensors and other diagnostic hardware: parts design and procurement, assembly, testing, debugging, installation/de-installation, and assessment of probe status.
  • Responsible for developing and improving procedures for magnetic probe hardware assembly, calibration, and testing.
  • Designing, improving and debugging electrical systems for magnetic probes and other diagnostics.
  • Documentation and communication of designs and results.
  • Assist in the assembly, testing, installation, calibration, and operation of diagnostic equipment as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering or engineering Physics with electrical specialization.
  • 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience designing, testing and debugging electrical systems.
  • Experience with analog signal conditioning, integrity and capture.
  • Experience in diagnosing issues and treating electromagnetic noise in electrical systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Ability to work well within a team and independently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience designing instrumentation for high vacuum environments preferred.
  • Experience integrating data processing or DAQ equipment with control systems (e.g. LabVIEW) preferred.
  • Experience with FEMM for magnetic field modelling preferred.
  • Experience working with high-power amplifiers preferred.
  • Experience with modelling electrical circuits, PCB design (Altium preferred) and manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with computer programming (Python, C++ or similar) preferred.
  • Experience designing enclosures and grounding systems for a high electrical noise environment is preferred.
  • Experience in mechanical design and 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks and PDM) preferred.
  • Registration with EGBC as a Professional Engineer, or on track to complete registration, preferred.
  • Experience authenticating work in a prototyping environment preferred.

This role requires self-directed work that is often driven by employee initiative. The successful candidate will have the expertise to focus their attention on tasks that add value to the project at hand. The candidate must have experience in working with and safely moving large equipment.

The typical hiring range for this position is $95,000 - $110,000. General Fusion considers several factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills, and experience, proficiency, job location, and internal equity.
