Production Manufacturing Intern
Shinkei Systems
Buffalo, NY, USA · Delft, Netherlands · El Segundo, CA, USA
Preferred: Summer FT Availability We’re scaling production of our Poseidon robotic systems and looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on intern to support inventory, production operations, vendor coordination, and process improvement. This is a great role for a student interested in production management, operations, manufacturing, or engineering environments.
What you get to do:
Assist the Production Manager with inventory organization, audits, and stock accuracy
Improve inventory systems by developing scripts or automations to maintain high data accuracy and connect app-based tools (e.g., Google Sheets, internal systems, external applications).
Support process improvement efforts, including documentation, SOP creation, and workflow optimization
Support incoming package intake, labeling, sorting, and stocking of parts
Help manage RMAs, returns, replacements, and vendor quality issues
Triage part shortages, discrepancies, and incorrect shipments
Support build readiness by helping kit parts and verify material availability before production begins
Assist with work-center organization and preparation, staging parts, tools, and materials for builds
Help reconcile BOMs vs actual inventory usage and flag mismatches
Build and maintain dashboards or trackers for inventory levels, shortages, lead times, and build progress
Collaborate with engineers and technicians to understand how parts flow from design to build
What you will need:
Currently enrolled in a college program (engineering, operations, supply chain, CS, or related preferred)
Comfort with spreadsheets, data tracking, basic analytics, and script development
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Comfort working in a fast-paced engineering or manufacturing environment
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and follow through independently
Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate cross-functionally
Interest in production management, inventory systems, manufacturing operations, or process improvement
Willingness to be hands-on — this role includes time on the floor organizing parts, kitting, and supporting builds and additional tasks vital to a growing start up.
Bonus if you have experience with:
Writing scripts or automation tools (Python, Apps Script, SQL, Zapier, etc.)
Improving or integrating inventory, ERP, or app-based systems
Excel / Google Sheets (pivot tables, lookups, dashboards)
Manufacturing, robotics, hardware, or engineering environments
Vendor coordination, purchasing workflows, or material planning
Data visualization or reporting (Power BI, Smartsheet, etc.)
Other things to know:
This internship is a high-impact operations role — you’ll help keep production running smoothly by ensuring parts are where they need to be, data stays accurate, and bottlenecks get surfaced early. It’s ideal for someone who wants real-world exposure to how engineering, supply chain, inventory, and production come together to build complex hardware systems.
You’ll have opportunities to own projects, improve systems, and build skills that translate directly into careers in production management, operations, manufacturing engineering, or technical program management.
