Mechanical Engineer Job Description

Reporting to: Director of Engineering

The Position

3DEO is a fast-growing metal 3D printing company that is seeking a passionate mechanical engineer to join our Research and Development team. This person will be responsible for developing and optimizing metal 3D printing processes, analyzing and interpreting experimental data, collaborating with other R&D engineers, and creating and maintaining technical documentation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develop and optimize metal 3D printing processes, including parameter selection, design of experiments, and process validation
• Design, test, and implement hardware improvements on our Saffron printer
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop impactful solutions to emerging issues on 3DEO fleet of printers
• Preform DOEs with the aim of reducing variation in the printing process
• Analyze and interpret experimental data to evaluate the performance of 3D printing systems and processes
• Systematically conduct experiments, record and analyze data to problem solve
• Safely operate complex capital equipment and follow good industrial practices around materials, equipment etc
• Identify measurable performance indicators for 3DEO’s printing process
• Provide support to internal teams as upgrades are pushed from R&D to production
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in metal additive manufacturing technology and share knowledge with the team to drive continuous improvement
• Engage in lifelong learning and develop new methods
• Create and maintain technical documentation related to hardware and processes, including design specifications, standard operating procedures, test plans, and validation reports

The Person

 The ideal candidate has 4-10 years of hands-on engineering experience, preferably in the additive manufacturing sector, and enjoys working on novel and challenging problems. They have a proven track record of improving complex systems and solving complex technical problems in a fast paced environment. They are detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about finding innovative solutions.

In addition, the ideal candidate is achievement oriented and a team player. They have a collaborative and open-minded approach, with excellent communication skills. They are proactive and self-motivated, able to work independently and take ownership of projects while also contributing to the team's success.

• Passion for learning and for conquering challenging problems 
• Strong understanding of additive manufacturing processes 
• Experience in R&D environment
• Proven history of taking engineering solutions from prototype to production
• Capable of developing measurable performance indicators for complex mechanical systems
• Able to break down complex projects into milestones and estimate timelines
• Experience with programing and microcontrollers is a plus
• Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science etc.
• Creativity and analytical skills
• Proficient in SolidWorks
• Prior experience in a startup environment is a plus
• Proven ability to drive results 
• Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner
• Technical writing skills
• Safety first mindset

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000
