Electrical Engineer — Industrial Automation & Controls
3DEO
Immediate Hire – On-Site in Torrance, CA
This is a full-time, on-site role (Monday–Friday) based in Torrance, CA. All qualified applicants will be considered, but we are prioritizing candidates who are already located in the Los Angeles area and available to start within 2–4 weeks.
About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead the design and integration of machine-level electrical systems for 3DEO’s next-generation metal 3D printers. This is a hands-on, on-site role focused on motion control, cabinet design, and safety integration for CNC-style industrial equipment. You’ll play a key role in turning complex R&D systems into scalable, production-ready machines — and have the opportunity to work on truly novel, proprietary additive manufacturing technology that’s redefining how complex metal components are designed and produced.
Essential Functions
- Design, upgrade, and document custom electrical cabinet architectures to meet evolving machine requirements, international safety standards, and manufacturing scalability.
- Redesign and rewire existing electrical systems to support global voltage standards (100V 50/60Hz) and updated safety protocols.
- Specify, select, and integrate off-the-shelf components including stepper/servo drivers, motion controllers, sensors, safety relays, interlocks, and I/O modules.
- Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and software teams to ensure full hardware/software integration across new process modules (spindle, recoater, laser, motion systems, gas systems, etc.).
- Support inert gas system integration and maintain compliance with relevant electrical safety requirements for sealed and hazardous environments.
- Develop standard electrical build documentation (schematics, cabinet layouts, BOMs, wiring diagrams) to support repeatable manufacturing processes.
- Implement diagnostic features, sensor feedback, and basic telemetry to support machine health monitoring and predictive maintenance.
- Support hardware debug, system validation, field deployment, and operator training during machine builds and customer installations.
- Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation of electrical designs, revisions, and field modifications.
Required Qualifications
- Solid understanding of core electrical engineering and physics principles relevant to industrial equipment design
- Proficiency in selecting and integrating industrial components: motion drivers, relays, safety circuits, I/O modules
- Ability to read and produce electrical schematics using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical)
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards and practices for machine-level electrical design
- Hands-on experience wiring electrical cabinets, panels, and machine enclosures
- Effective cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, controls, and field teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CNC machine platforms or motion control systems
- Familiarity with inert gas environments and related electrical integration
- Background in machine deployment, debug, or operator training
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline required
- Minimum of 6 years of experience designing and building electrical systems for automation equipment, machinery, or robotics
- Master’s degree preferred but not required
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Regularly works in a lab and machine assembly setting
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and perform hands-on electrical work in enclosures and around machinery
- Occasionally required to lift and move equipment up to 30 pounds
