Immediate Hire – On-Site in Torrance, CA

This is a full-time, on-site role (Monday–Friday) based in Torrance, CA. All qualified applicants will be considered, but we are prioritizing candidates who are already located in the Los Angeles area and available to start within 2–4 weeks.

About the Role

3DEO is seeking a Senior Machine Design Engineer to lead the architecture and integration of custom, high-precision industrial machines. This is a hands-on, on-site role in Torrance, CA—ideal for a mechanical systems expert who thrives on owning the full machine design process from concept to production.

You’ll design from the ground up: structural frames, motion systems, actuated assemblies, and sealed chambers that support 3DEO’s proprietary metal 3D printing platform. If you’ve built automation equipment, CNC-style platforms, or capital equipment in a multidisciplinary environment — this is your kind of role.

Essential Functions

  • Own mechanical architecture of entire electromechanical systems (machine-level design)
  • Design structural frames, motion subsystems, enclosures, and sealed assemblies for manufacturability and serviceability
  • Select and integrate motion components (motors, actuators, guides, sensors) for performance and reliability
  • Translate print process or automation requirements into mechanical design solutions
  • Develop tolerance schemes and stackups for high-precision assemblies
  • Work with cross-functional teams (electrical, controls, software, and process engineering) to ensure system-level integration
  • Lead prototyping, design validation, and iterative development cycles
  • Generate documentation packages including CAD models, technical drawings, BOMs, and revision history

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced CAD proficiency in SolidWorks for complex mechanical system design
  • Deep understanding of motion control systems, structural analysis, and electromechanical integration
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and deliver custom capital equipment or industrial automation systems
  • Experience designing for DFM, precision tolerances, and field service access
  • Strong communication and leadership skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with sealed systems, inert gas environments, or powder handling
  • Familiarity with safety standards for machinery (e.g., ISO 13849, CE/UL requirements)
  • Background in building machines for R&D environments or short-run production

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
  • Master’s degree or equivalent practical experience strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of experience designing complete industrial machines, automation equipment, or complex mechanical systems

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Regularly works in engineering labs and near production equipment
  • Must be able to perform hands-on work including builds, tests, and mechanical debugging
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and perform hands-on work at machines and workbenches
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds
